Passage 1
African cities are forecast to urbanize(城市化)at a rate of 3.65% annually, adding nearly 350 million new city–dwellers by 2030, according to The Brookings Institution. A billion
more people are expected to be living in African cities by 2063.
Population growth is the engine of urbanization for the continent. Most of the expansion in urban populations comes from natural growth, not rural–to–urban migration. Already, big cities like Lagos and Kinshasa are growing rapidlyand with that growth comes many challenges.
Most of Africa’s worst problems are most obvious in its cities. The huge numbers of people, the unemployed everywhere, the endless traffic jams, the bad road networks, the absence of meaningful infrastructure(基础设施) it goes on.
Yet,(66)there are three recurring difficulties with Africa’s rapid urbanization, according to a World Bank report out this month. First, the cities are crowded. That might seem obvious to a visitor. Both commercial and industrial and housing infrastructure investment has been unable to keep up with the rise in urban population.
Then there’s the poor transport network of these cities. Residents are unable to easily move from one part of the city to another due to unreliable and inefficient transport networks made up of minibuses, matatus which travel across these cities.
Finally, it’s expensive to live, invest, or run a business in an African city. (67) The World Bank says African cities are 29% more expensive than cities in countries at similar income levels. Families in African cities have to spend 55% more on housing than other regions. The high transport, housing, and food costs make labor more expensive.

A class with hundreds or even thousands of students might sound like a teacher’s worst nightmare. But a big idea in higher education these days is Massive Open Online Courses, or MOOCs.
(67)Some universities offer free, non–credit MOOCs available to anyone in the world. Others charge for courses and provide credits. The idea is still developing. The Massachusetts Institute of Technology started its first MOOC in 2012. The school plans to offer many free, non–credit courses through a project called MITx. Many Chinese universities are beginning

Nowadays, MOOCs almost cover every topic, like computer science, technology, mechanics, engineering, languages, etc.
Generally speaking, there are no formal education requirements for these free online courses. Students watch short videos. Then, they take informal, ungraded quizzes after the videos each week for certain weeks. Quizzes are part of the lecture program to keep students engaged and keep them thinking, for students to be able to check that they understood what was covered. They can repeatedly watch the videos and take the quizzes whenever they want. Students receive homework. They can join online groups to exchange questions and answers about the courses. The teachers hold virtual office hours to answer questions that the students have posted. They also present their own questions and observations.
Some supporters claimed that there are things that we can do better in the online format.

Passage 3
Team building skills are critical for your effectiveness as a manager or entrepreneur. And even if you are not in a management or leadership role yet, better understanding of team work can make you a more effective employee and give you an extra edge in your corporate office.
Team building success is when your team can accomplish something much bigger and work more effectively than a group of the same individuals working on their own. There are two critical factors in building a high performance team.
(69) The first factor in team effectiveness is the diversity of skills and personalities. It means people use their strengths in full, but can compensate for each other’s weaknesses. Or, different personality types balance and complement each other.
The other critical element of team work success is that all the team efforts are directed towards the same clear goals, the team goals. This relies heavily on good communication in
the team and harmony in member relationships.
(70)In real life, team work success rarely happens by itself if there are no focused team building efforts or activities. There is simply too much room for problems. For example, different personalities may build up conflicts. Or even worse, some people with similar personalities may start fighting for authority and dominance in certain areas of expertise. Even if the team goals are clear and accepted by everyone, there may be no team commitment to the group goals, or no consensus on the means of achieving those goals. There may be a lack of trust and openness, which may block critical communication and lead to loss of coordination in the individual efforts. This is why every team needs a good leader who is able to deal with all team work issues.
51–What does the phrase an extra edge mean in the first paragraph?

(C) the same clear team goals (正确答案)
(D) the variety of personalities

(A) To develop different personalities of team members.
(B) To accept all means to realize the team goals.
(C) To settle various issues in teamwork. (正确答案)
(D) To fight for the authority within the team.
54–What is the main idea of the last paragraph?
(A) Team work success rarely happens in real life.
(B) A good team should have a diversity of personalities.
(C) There are too many conflicts in a team.
(D) A good team often needs a capable team leader. (正确答案)
55–According to the passage, why is the diversity of personality valued in team effectiveness?

四、完形填空(10 分,每题 1 分)阅读下面的短文,从A 、B、C、D 四个选项中选出最佳选项。
You jump into a car, tell it where you want to go, then sit back and let a computer take control. It seems like a dream 56 . It isn’t.
In many ways such driverless cars are already with us. There is partial automation in many cars, such as intelligent braking, lane departure warning and automatic parking. The systems are there 57 cars can pretty much drive themselves. No one noticed the introduction of cruise control. We’ve got collision avoidance, and we’ll soon have automatic lane change.
58 this technology should make the roads safer. Machines are much better59 following rules than humans. Road signs 60 drivers to slow down to avoid creating jams. They are often ignored by drivers. But it won’t happen to a computer. Driverless cars could also choose the best route to 61 traffic jams.
Fewer jams will mean less stop–start driving. Maintaining smooth and constant speeds will improve fuel efficiency. Computers could also be programmed to take the greenest route, 62 the fastest one. Under computer control, cars could also travel much closer together.
They can effectively “slipstream” 63 and use less fuel to move themselves forward. They can even form multi–car “trains” going at 64 speeds. However, with driverless cars on the roads, there will be potential trust issues between people and machines. We could 65 see guard rails back on the sides of roads. This would be a backward step.
